Fun, Safe, and for a Good Cause

About

The Daniel Webster Boy Scout Council has partnered with Over the Edge, a fundraising initiative that sends daring pledges rappelling down an office building in a once-in-a-lifetime event.

WHERE - The Daniel Webster Council is pleased to offer members of the community the chance to see Manchester from a new angle – off the side of the Brady Sullivan Building at 1000 Elm Street.

WHEN – September 24th, 2011 between 10am-6pm (repelling starts at 10am).

HOW - You can sponsor someone who is rappelling or sign up by visiting our donate/register page.

Why is it safe?

This event is being produced by Over the Edge, a fully insured professional rappelling organization that has worked with various non-profit groups throughout North America to help raise money for their cause. From the time you harness up, to when you successfully unharness at the bottom, you’re in good hands. The equipment, practices, and procedures used are approved by Federal and State OSHA, Workers Compensation, and Industrial Rope Access Trade Association.

Why would I rappel off a building?

The Daniel Webster Boy Scout Council (DWBSC) is a non-profit scouting organization that serves to protect youth morale. With an emphasis on camping and other outdoor adventures, they promote physical fitness and an appreciation for nature.

DWBSC offers young men in New Hampshire the opportunity to establish friendships and forge long-lasting bonds. Due to its wide variety of programs, the Scouts are able to reach out to young men across the entire state.

Your donation to this event will benefit all of DWBSC’s programs, including but not limited to:

Cub Scouts is a year-round program designed for 7-10 year old boys and their families. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.

Service projects, games and camping activities give boys a sense of personal achievement. Parents, leaders and friends play an active role as they encourage boys to live the Cub Scout Motto “Do Your Best.”

Boy Scouts is an outdoor program designed to develop character, citizenship, and fitness for boys ages 11 through 17. The advancement program and peer group leadership helps a boy transition into manhood. The Eagle Scout Award, the highest Scouting rank, is recognized globally as a mark of excellence.

In Boy Scouts, youths take responsibility for the activities of the troop. By planning and organizing activities, they develop teamwork and learn to lead as well as follow.

Venturing is a program that welcomes young men and women ages 14 through 20. Venturing provides experiences to help young people mature and become responsible and caring adults. Venturers learn leadership skills and participate in challenging outdoor activities that help develop self-confidence. Venturing focuses resources that help a community organization provide wholesome, flexible, well-rounded, challenging activities, tailor-made for teenage youth.

Who can participate?

Individuals aged 14 and up and weighing at least 110 pounds can participate in the event. By donating a minimum of $750 you can rappel in the Xtreme Descent. You are encouraged to request sponsorships from friends and family to assist you in securing your donation. You simply need to collect an aggregate of $750 or more. These donations are fully tax-deductible in accordance with the law.

Why now?

The Boy Scouts of America are celebrating their 100th anniversary! All proceeds from the event will benefit the New Hampshire Boy Scout programs of the Daniel Webster Council. Rappellers will receive a commemorative “Descent Kit” loaded with an Xtreme Descent long-sleeved t-shirt and souvenir carabineer. VIP’s will receive a commemorative Xtreme Descent polar fleece vest. And who doesn’t want something more exciting to talk about around the water cooler at the office?
